What Are We Reading At Silver Star? Week of March 12, 2007

Have you wondered what books are in the hands of students and staff at Silver Star?   A weekly feature will keep you up to date, thanks to the suggestion by Kelly over at Big A, little a.

I wandered around at morning recess, like a reporter, quizzing fourth and fifth graders about what they have checked out of the library lately.  Here is how they responded:

Charlotte, 5th grade is reading the Amelia books by Marissa Moss.  Her friend introduced her to the books.

Alejandra, 5th grade is reading Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White for the second time.  When I asked her why she told me she was a pig.

Alyssa, 5th grade, loves to read about embarrassing moments in the “Discovery Girls”magazine. She wouldn’t share an embarrassing moment about her though.

Dmitri, 5th grade is interested in Alaska and has checked out a book on the subject for a report he is doing.

Kristen, 5th grade, loves to read about cats and dinosaurs. She just acquired a new kitten bringing the total to four cats at her house.

Daniel, 5th grade is reading Trumpet of the Swans by E.B. White for the first time.

Jessica, 5th grade is reading and listening to A Cricket in Times Square by George Seldon.  She told me the different voices for the characters makes it fun to listen to while reading.

Eric, 4th grade, took a break from his writing test to tell me that he is reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling.  He was surprised that Harry got sent to detention.

Jennifer, 4th grader, loves the Captain Underpants books by Dav Pilkey and is also reading Calvin and Hobbes. She said she likes funny books.

Teresa, 4th grade has completed the American Girl series. Her favorite is the Samantha books.

Isabella, 4th grade is reading the Animal Ark series. She told me her faves are the ones with the horses.  Those would have been mine at that age. I read all the Walter Farley books.

Finally, Amanda has just finished Goosed by Bill Wallace.  She was interested in the book because she also has a dog.

What are you reading this week?

Happy Reading,

MsMac

Very cool! It’s nice to have a window into what kids are reading and enjoying, updated on a regular basis. I’ll definitely be checking back.

What a great idea! Would it be okay if I use it too sometime?

P.S. I’m reading “How to Get Suspended and Influence People,” by Adam Selzer.

Love this! I can’t wait to see what they will read next. I’m reading The Book of Story Beginnings by Kristin Kladstrup. It’s a beautiful fantasy somewhat reminiscent of Inkheart.
