Podcasting, Cybils, and a Word Search

There was so much information at the First Annual Kidlitosphere Conference. It made my head spin, caused insomnia, and I smiled like a Cheshire cat most of Monday.

After hearing Mark and Andrea talk about pod-casting, I was a true believer. Pod-casting could be an awesome way for my poetry kids to have a recording of their poems.  Pod-casting could record our fabulous school’s marimba band. Pod-casting might encourage some fifth graders to read so that they can podcast their book review.  Plans are in the works to get the equipment for our school.

The CYBILS forum was invaluable.  Too bad the discussion couldn”t have been pod-casted for the others involved in CYBILS to hear.  I appreciated knowing that others had questions about nominating books in their category if they were on either selection or judging panels.  I personally have stayed away from nominating in the poetry category for that reason.  I believe it was in this session I came to realize just how much we are pioneers in changing how children’s literature is reviewed.  Thank you Anne and Kelly for all your work.

Finally, I discovered that over a hundred kidlit bloggers on a word search here. And “Check It Out” was on the list. Cool, will read more of Sam Riddleburger’s blog.

I have been to a lot of conferences. The First Annual Kidlitosphere Conference is in my top five. Organized, fun, and I walked away with such great information.  Plus, my husband and I got to see a bit of Chicago. It is definitely on my must visit again list.

Almost finished with The Green Glass Sea.  What are you reading?

Happy Reading.

    Hey MsMac,

The podcasting info was amazing. It seems a wee bit scary, but fantastically exciting. It would be an amazing tool to get kids excited about reviewing books and reading and poetry and all those wonders!

Would love to hear how it goes if you do that!
