Poetry Friday: “The Germ” by Ogden Nash

resize1.jpg

Who is this? Oh, it is MsMac, who has been under the weather since leaving school last Friday. So in honor of Poetry Friday, may I share Ogden Nash’s poem:

THE GERM
A mighty creature is the germ,
Though smaller than the pachyderm.
His customary dwelling place
Is deep within the human race.
His childish pride he often pleases
By giving people strange diseases.
Do you, my poppet, feel infirm?
You probably contain a germ.

This is why I am late in posting and hosting Poetry Friday. I am trying Mister Linky and will return with updates.  Happy New Year.  Happy Reading.

Thank you Lisa  who shares the poem: “The Greater Cats”, a poem by V. Sackville-West, dedicated to the memory of Tatiana, the Siberian tiger killed at the San Francisco Zoo on Christmas. John, headed off to work thinks ahead to the new year with “All, All of a Piece” by Dryden.

I’m sorry you’ve been feeling ill – that’s the worst, and yet I remember my mother was always sick over the holidays too when she worked in a school library. I think it was a combination of all those kids germs, and of the holiday stress – although it always turned up once she was done working and could relax. Feel better!

I have a post about a nifty webtool that allows you to watch back the process of writing a short poem (or any email, for that matter), in real time, complete with deletions, changes, pauses, etc. Very cool.

Felt a bit infirm myself, which is why I’m so late — good poem, hope you’re feeling better by now.

    I’m in with Walt Whitman.
Thank you for hosting. Get some rest!

Ha! No one says it shorter, snappier, and funnier than Ogden Nash! That said, I hope your own germ soon takes leave. Thanks again for hosting. :-)
